Why is registration only available for a virtual event right now?
We are opening registration for a virtual event now, so that we can secure the best prices for the athlete swag items by helping our team make accurate projections on the quantities for medals and apparel to order. By securing the best pricing for these items, we are able to pass the savings on to you through early bird pricing. We continue to plan and are hoping for an in-person event in April 2021, however, given the uncertain nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are delaying the start of in-person event registration until further notice.

What benefit do I receive by registering for the virtual race now?
By acting now and registering you will have the opportunity, if guidelines allow, to transfer to the in-person race at no additional cost, if desired.

What items are included with the Virtual Drake Road Races?
All participants will receive a Drake Road Races branded apparel item specific to your desired size, a one-of-a-kind finisher's medal and a race bib.  Keep watching our newsletters and social media to be the first to see the reveal of the designs for the swag and medal! All participants will also have the opportunity to win prizes from sponsors during the event.

Will registration for an in-person event be available?
We remain hopeful and optimistic that we will be able to host an in-person event and continue to plan for that. Details about updated event protocols and the field size, pending local regulations, will be available if the in-person event registration opens. You can review the Drake Road Races course maps from the 2019 event: 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, and Combined Courses.

If I register for the virtual race now, will I be able to transfer my registration to the in-person event if it becomes available?
If registration for the in-person event becomes available, we anticipate limited capacities for each race distance based on guidance from local officials. At that time, the entire capacity of each race will be first awarded to those who are currently registered for the 2021 Virtual Drake Road Races and those who elected to defer their registration from the 2020 event. Registrants will be notified via email with instructions and a timeline to complete their transfer to the in-person race, if they choose.

How will spots for the in-person event be awarded in the case that the number of current registrants exceeds the capacity of the race distance?
If the number of registrants exceeds the capacity for any race distance, a lottery system will be used with preference given to those who participated in the 2020 Virtual Drake Road Races. If a registrant is awarded a spot through the lottery, they will be notified via email with instructions and a timeline to complete their transfer to the in-person race, if they choose.

Will registration for an in-person event open to those who have not registered for the virtual event?
If capacity for any distance of a potential in-person event exceeds the number of registrants for that distance, the remaining spots will be made available to the general public on a first-come, first-served basis.

If I register for the virtual event and decide not to participate, can I get a refund or defer to 2022?
One of the primary benefits of a virtual event, is that even in unpredictable times we can still provide a safe, high-quality racing experience to participants. Regardless of the format of the 2021 event, we're confident that our team will produce a great event that offers fantastic swag and opportunities to win prizes. As a result, we will not be offering any refunds or deferrals for the 2021 Drake Road Races.

  2020 Deferred Registrants

I deferred my 2020 registration to 2021, do I have to reregister for the virtual event?
No, if you have completed the steps to defer your entry to 2021 no further action is needed. You will be registered for the 2021 virtual event and will have the opportunity to be among the first to transfer your registration to the potential in-person event if it becomes available.

I deferred my 2020 registration to 2021, can I be refunded now?
By deferring your 2020 registration, we have reserved all swag items for you for the event in 2021. As a result, we will not be offering any refunds. You will receive the 2021 race packet in the mail and all other benefits of the virtual race experience. As a 2020 deferred registrant you will be among the first to receive notifications and updates if registration for a 2021 in-person event becomes available.
