Thank you for volunteering for the Grand Blue Mile. With the support of more than 1,000 volunteers during Relays week we are able to host the Midwest's premier one mile event and the best track and field meet in the world.

Registration & Packet Pick-up
Assist with race-day packet pick up, distribution of shirts, and walk-up registration at the Athlete Services Tent located in Western Gateway Park in Downtown Des Moines. 
Course & Traffic Support
Assist with the traffic flow between races and directing runner traffic.
Assist with directing runner traffic at a defined location to ensure athletes are following the correct course. Course marshals can also serve as monitors along the course, relaying key information such as lead and tail runner, a runner who may be struggling, and the general public who are being diverted from their normal traffic pattern on race day.
Assisting with Des Moines Police Dept in monitoring the 6th St parking garage traffic flow between races and/or start line barricade monitoring.
Finish Line
Celebrate and congratulate thousands of runners as they cross the Finish Line! Volunteers will distribute a variety of different items including finisher medals, awards, sports drinks, water and food in the runner refreshment area. You may also be asked to help control the flow of the crowd throughout the finish line.
Pass out snacks/refreshments to runners before and after the race.
Pass out medals to those who participated in both the Drake Road Races and the Grand Blue Mile. Other finish line duties to include managing the traffic flow so race participants are moving to the recovery zone in a timely fashion.
